Our Pub

Set in the heart of Trumpington, The Meadow Lark is a boutique pub with rooms, located in the idyllic Cambridgeshire countryside, just a short ride from the historic city of Cambridge.

Following a significant refurbishment, The Meadow Lark boasts Heartwood’s usual quirky design touches with a warm and inviting bar, dining and lounge spaces alongside 19 beautifully designed bedrooms, creating a relaxed place to gather, dine and linger a little longer.

Inside, there’s space to settle in for a leisurely lunch, a cosy evening over dinner or a drink with friends, while the spacious rear terrace and garden make the most of the pub’s picturesque surroundings.

The Meadow Lark, Our Historic Pub in Trumpington, Cambridge

Believed to date from the 1840s, The Meadow Lark is a much-loved village pub that began life as The Unicorn, tucked away on Church Lane.

For generations it has been a gathering place for brass bands, clubs and neighbours in Trumpington.

Later known as The Lord Byron Inn, it takes its name from nearby Byron’s Pool, where the poet is said to have swum.

Our recent refurbishment has been thoughtfully carried out to preserve the character and charm of this iconic building, while introducing Heartwood Inns’ signature warm, relaxed style.

The result is a pub that feels both timeless and welcoming – a true local at heart, ready to be enjoyed for many years to come.

We take pride in our reputation for serving high-quality, seasonal food alongside meticulously crafted pints, a thoughtfully curated wine selection, and an enticing array of cocktails.

Our boutique-style bedrooms feature Heartwood’s signature touches, including Roberts radios, Chromecast televisions, Bramley toiletries, rainfall showers and, in select rooms, elegant free-standing baths.

A number of rooms are ideal for family stays and dog-friendly too. We even have a dog shower for your muddy four-legged companions.

Things to Do Near The Meadow Lark

For a breath of fresh air, take a short walk from the pub to the infamous Byron’s Pool, a tranquil nature spot along the River Cam, encircled by woodland and humming with wildlife. It’s a lovely place for a peaceful walk, with a little local history woven into the landscape.

Closer to home, pop into Trumpington village, and discover all it has to offer.

Marked by the local church, St Mary & St Michael Trumpington, this quaint town is lined with cobbled streets and charming green spaces.

Or instead, venture into Cambridge to choose from an array of independent shops, cafés and charming riverside paths.

For something a little different, take to the water on a traditional Cambridge punt and see the city from the river, gliding past historic college buildings and beneath the city’s famous bridges.
